We must think before we shop.
Shopping is an amazing way to change the world. Force corporations to supply what we demand: cruelty-free products. No animal testing, no disrespect for animal life, no sweatshop labor, no rhinestones.
Don't be a mindless consumer.

A Shift Into A New Movement

First of all:
If you have a sibling, take care of him/her. I love my brother more than I love anyone, and love is the only thing that can change this world. If you care about animals, the environment, human rights, whatever, and you do not know love then you will never fully understand what you are fighting so hard for. My brother is not a vegan, but he is my best support and doesn't even realize it. Suck it to the haters.
Another idea that I have pondered today:
An overwhelming majority of the Chattanooga youth (including my precious brother) are sitting comfy in their tye-dye (sp??) while the years bring us further from the 60s. Why are the 60s so hot right now????
The 60s are dead. Let's find our own identity because looking in the past isn't moving us any further from the pain of this war or the suffering of today's animals. Our movement begins the day we take responsibility for our own actions and see the world around us through our own eyes. We need the eyes of a new savior: not of Jesus Christ or John Lennon. We need the eyes of a real person: not a political talking head. We need our own peace sign, our own revolution. I believe that this revolution should begin with the leveling of all beings: humans are animals. When this idea is encouraged, we cannot help but respect the land, the animals, and inevitably and so perfectly respect each other. All falls in line when we love our surroundings and thus are surrounded by love. Discriminating love is just discrimination. Women's rights, the rights of all races, religious rights, gay rights, etc. can all make new statements in the history books of the future if animal rights are asserted today. I do not wish for the children of the future to be reading the same shitty text books in the same shitty schools with the same shitty notions because our generation- a generation with a tremendous opportunity to shift the consciousness of the world- spends too much time whining about how great the 60s were. The aspects of the 60s that were great all depended on a new unsilence (yea- my word). Nothing was still. Everything was moving- ergo a movement happened. I fear today that the majority of people either ignore the need for change because of selfish laziness OR they mimic a generation that created their destiny. The young adults of 2008 need to create our destiny- not copy an outdated and incompatible plan. Come on, we have Ipods now. Yea... Ipods... so that's a start. Anyway, I know Jimi Hendrix still makes your groin tickle, but we are escaping the now by way of the sixties. We are doing their drugs and listening to their music- the purple haze is keeping us in that generation's shadow. So sober up and see that we have new problems today that can't be solved in your basement with your old records and sweet Grateful Dead calender that you got at Bonnaroo. My advice for our generation's first real step:
A (free) Vegetarian Starter Kit from the PETA website. It may just be the starter of our movement.
BTW: Elvis really is dead too.

Who Moved My Cheese?
Chattanooga is beautiful. I saw the most adorable freakin' little squirrel today when I was on a walk, and I almost shot it with my mind bullet of joy. That would have been ironic.
I really appreciated today. It was pretty, friends were fun, and I was pretty much bitchy. That really is okay though. Bitchy moments are very necessary for me at times. I have been overwhelmed with myself lately, and sometimes sass is the only way I can accept the fact that I can't eat cheese.
Yes.. it's difficult for me still. I miss pizza. But, ultimately it is so monumentally worth it to me. As much as I let it stress me out, being an animal rights activist gives me such drive and purpose that I don't know who I would be without it. Maybe.... nichole richie or Samuel L. Jackson. (did she just diss the sammie? Hells yes!)
To summarize, chattanooga is beautiful for veggies even though samuel l. jackson is from here and all he does is yell when he "acts."
Power to the Earthlings!
I swear my posts will be more focused later.
Namaste.
Sincerely yours,

Let's talk derby
Before I get too derby, I have these recommendations:
1) read the article below
2) think about Sweeney Todd from a vegetarian perspective
3) Listen to Yo la tengo.
4) Don't watch Dancing with the Stars
I'll write derby later.

Oh the system...
I hope that some of you can take the time to write to Senator Corker. While I probably sent him a letter two months ago, the fact that someone actually responded is rare and awesome. I suggest joining PETA's newsletter and choosing the option that allows PETA to send you petitions and letter signing projects. It's where I get a lot of my information and inspiration for personal activist projects. It took me literally 5 minutes to write a letter, and I got to spread the word of animal rights to another person that probably would not consider them. Word to your motha and senator corker.
now read:
Dear Ms. Whittenburg,
Thank you for taking the time to contact my office to share your concerns about non-animal test methods and the Interagency Coordinating Committee on the Validation of Alternative Methods (ICCVAM). Your input is important to me, and I appreciate the time you took to share your thoughts.
I share your concerns over the lengthy process in which ICCVAM has approved non-animal test methods by federal agencies, and I appreciate your interest and dedication to this issue and to the safety of animals and public health in general. Thank you also for bringing to my attention the NAS report calling for more efficient non-animal test methods for dangerous substances, it is my hope that Congress will look further into ICCVAM and the approval of these tests. The insight you've given here will certainly help us more effectively look into this issue and I thank you for your input.
Thank you again for your letter. I hope you will continue to share your thoughts with me.
Sincerely,
Bob Corker
United States Senator

A slick and sticky bond
Grip is for the sticky.
The sticky stick to all.
If they stick then they are stuck.
For sure, they cannot fall.
There are also the slick and slender.
They slick and slender by.
The stuck can only guess the slick world-
for they cannot see outside.
The stuck ones’ only movement
is the motion of their eyes.
But soon those eyes too are stuck,
as those two sockets hold on tight.
After all, movement is pointless
if you have nothing to give.
The sticky have no stories.
All they have is stick.
Moving on, the slick are next.
They never stay or hold.
The friction keeps them warm,
but their traveling hearts are cold.
The slick and slender have ease of form,
and the world’s turning moves them on.
The slick see what the stuck imagine,
but speed detaches their thoughts.
The world means nothing to the slick,
as there is nothing in their world.
Everything is only anything
when colors have time to absorb.
There was a day- or it could have been night-
it does not matter which-
that one slick and slender slicked too close to one that sticks.
The sticky happened to get stuck on the back of the passing other.
The stuck felt terror;
the slick felt weary,
but the sticky clash bonded them as brothers.
The sticky, being on the slender back,
could only see behind.
So as stuck as the sticky was,
the view was always a new find.
The slick one still moved along,
as a slick and slender must.
But as slick as this one was,
the new stuck passenger slowed his thrust.
The one that was sticky,
who had never felt the wind,
grew to love his new slick brother,
and he called him his best friend.
His slick companion felt the same and his world, too, began to change.
The moving images had slowed down,
and the colors became distinct.
The slick one and the sticky one had changed each one’s world;
but the slick could still slick forward,
and the sticky could still take hold.
The sticky never want to be slick;
They only wish to know more.
The slick would never choose to stop;
they only want time to explore.

Feliz Día de la Madre
¡Feliz Día de la Madre!
Hola Mama. Tengo mucho respeto a tí.
