Sometimes I Wish I Could Rap

If I could just bust out a rhyme on haters in the skreets, people may feel what I'm representin' more.

Blogging is just so.... white.

But I must accept that I am a pasty little vegan chick with no street cred. So blog on!

Tonight, I just feel like following where the typing leads me. I don't particularly have powerful declarations to impart upon you. That ain't my style. Actually, I have not been my usual  brilliant and clever self lately. I feel dullard-like. Like when you get a little too drunk one night and you look across the room and are just certain that you see your friend that you made out with that one night when you got a little too drunk- creating a very awkward situation- but several months have passed so you feel you can make a very funny joke about said night so you smile really big and wave over the friend across the room but you don't think they see you so you get up and ever-so-carefully walk over there but when you get there you realize it is a life-size cut out of David Hasselhoff which just creates another awkward situation due to being a little too drunk. so you try to play it off like there is someone behind the cut-out, but you and the drunk asshole at the party who likes to yell to all his friends what a tool you are both know that you Hassled the Hoff.

That is how I feel.

Awkward and fuzzy and like I'm hassling hoffs and others.

I'm very preoccupied with many things right now, and the Animal Rights Movement has not been my priority. I'm feeling guilty about it. So, to make up for it I am going to write some letters to some corporations who test on animals tomorrow. Letter writing can feel so tedious and pointless, but such is life, especially for animals who silently endure whatever we "higher" species decide is most convenient or entertaining  for ourselves. Tedious and pointless is the life of the corporately farmed and slaughtered animal.

Making this post relevant was a stretch but I think I managed.

I'm going to go finish watching My Fair Lady on TIVO.

I think TIVO would be a vegetarian if he required nourishment.

Love you.

Fenced In

Remember that time when black people were slaves?

oops.

That was stupid. Man oh man... golly gee, what ever made the U.S. think that was cool?

Oh... that's right... a bunch of rich, God-fearing, white people decided that money, God, and whiteness = do whatever the heck they want to make themselves feel powerful.

Good thing times have changed.

Many people deny the parallels between human slavery, specifically America's enslavement of black people, and animal slavery. Many are offended by this comparison. Many people make money from the "animal-production industry." But you don't.. so you can't be a part of the problem...

I was a Christian growing up. I was a meat-eater growing up. I was a good kid. I hated no one and hurt no one intentionally. Life was good. I watched cartoons, read books assigned by the school, went to the neighborhood park, made friends at vacation bible school, watched my brother play baseball, and was growing and growing into a white woman in the south. I hurt no one intentionally.

I got a little older. I started watching the news that my Republican family watched. I went to Catholic mass every Sunday and went to a Catholic school for many years. I was growing up even more. I hurt no one intentionally.

I lived in suburbia, but was not ignorant to the "real world". Oh no... I mean. I watched the news. I would see on the news at times horrible stories of gang violence, tornados, and especially terrorism. September 11th came along and the news enveloped my life.  Everyone watched the news. Everyone had pride in this country. Everyone saw the enemy: The Middle East. Everyone saw the hero: The United States.

It was clear to myself, my friends, and my family that the United States never hurt anyone intentionally.

It was because of this knowledge that I trusted this country and felt good about the life I was living. Everyone and everything around me approved of my church-going, good-grade making, conservative lifestyle. If anyone wanted to doubt or argue about these things with me, though, I had a news story, a bible verse, and the support of my family/friends to defend myself. I was hurting no one and helping the world.

oops.

That was stupid. Man oh man... golly gee, what ever made me thing that was cool?

Oh... that's right... a bunch of rich, God-fearing, white people decided that money, God, and whiteness= do whatever they want to the news and our schools so long as to breed "patriots" who will see the world through a picket-fence and give their support (aka. money) to the government and thus make themselves feel more powerful.

We have all heard the expression, "You see what you want to see." But maybe it is more like, "You see what the powerful people around you choose for you to see." During the time of slavery in this country, black people were seen as actually inferior to whites. They were  not people.. they were slaves. And, a majority of the slave-holders were Christians. Were all these Christian slave-holders evil and horrible? No.. not all. Many were just living a lifestyle that society promoted. When money and power rule society, religion is the best means to achieve these things. Religion is at the heart of so many people. Many would die for their faith and live based solely on it. So, how do you get a large group of people to believe that something is right? You convince them that it is a religious decision they are making. Slavery was that religious decision.

It still is.

The "animal-production industry" is a HUGE industry. If you are not vegan, think about how many animal products you consume daily, weekly, monthly, yearly! It is probably pretty important to these billion-dollar corporations that you keep consuming these things at a high rate. So important that they probably donate a buck or two to the government to keep certain health, environmental and human rights abuses accrued by their giant factories and farms quiet. The government doesn't see a problem with adding more money to its pockets so this process perpetuates. President Bush throws in a "Jesus" or two into a speech, and the Christian masses can rest easy behind the white picket-fence because they aren't hurting anyone intentionally.

But these animals are slaves, and the conditions that they suffer are not necessary for your survival nor are they natural. They aren't living in the Garden of Eden. But you do not see the tortured animals in circuses, laboratories, fur farms, or other factory farms on the news. You see what they want you to see so you will love this country.

Watch Earthlings. Get a new perspective. Have a more complete view of the world. Your life will be much richer for it, and you can find yourself under the crap you have accumulated after years of being told half-truths and complete lies.

Speaking of fences, don't leave your dog in a small fence under the hot sun all day.

Thanks for reading.

Terrorism is the government's way of scaring you.

Vegan tacos are delicious.

Fuck the circus.

Vegan blessings to you.

No bebe el agua; no come la carne

Don't drink the water; Don't eat the meat.

Alright.. but let's make it a quickie because im tired...

Buenas Noches Senores!

Vamos haber....
I just returned after a full day of traveling back from Mexico. I wanted to post a short bit because I have missed babbling on so much.

The trip was a mixture of amazing and horrible.

Katlyn?
Yes?
What was amazing?

Well... first of all, I speak Spanish with class and charm. Those Mexicans loved the little gringa speaking their language of love to them. Everyone I talked to was so nice and a little bit crazy, which I can relate to. It was always funny when they would realize that I could understand them, and then I wouldn't be able to get them to shut up. Mexicans LOVE to talk. I was only there a week, and I learned so much! It has renewed my love for the language and culture, and I have decided I am moving to Latin America as soon as possible.

Also good, we zip-lined through the jungle and that was BEAUTIFUL. It blew my mind. I was zipping from mountain to mountain, and looking down at the birds flying. The ride up to the jungle, though, was crazy!!! We literally rode in the back of a pick-up on the interstate and up into the jungle onto a one-lane road that spiraled around the mountain. We were going about 50 on the turns and there was nothing between us and the edge of the cliff. We were all freaking out about coming back down, but after the zip-line, they got us all drunk on tequila that they make themselves so we forgot about the whole death thing.

ALSO good was free alcohol. I walked into my room the first day we got to the resort and went into the bathroom, and there was a case mounted on the wall containing four bottles of liquor for my unlimited use. It had a dispenser and everything. I had never seen anything like that.

Also good were the mexican fellas who worked at the resort.

Bad stuff..... well, family time was horrible. I was miserable with my parents most of the time (although I wouldn't tell them that). Very stressful. Very unnecessary. Ridiculous things happened with the family.

Also bad is that a random gross mexican kissed me in the elevator. True story. Nuff said.

Also bad is that I caught the worst case of strep throat (at least I think it is strep; I go to the doctor in the morning) that I have ever had about midway through the trip. I blame the nasty mexican who kissed me. It has spread to my tongue and all around my throat. So, half of my trip I was in my room most of the day watching Mexican TV.

Also bad is that the food was great if you are a carnivorous fat ass who enjoys cooking under the mexican sun in your own disgusting lard.

This quickie has become too much. I told you I was tired so finish already.

Basically I'm very glad to be home. I have more pertinent issues for this blog to discuss tomorrow with pictures, but I just thought I'd do a brief recap (mainly for myself.)

I missed you.
You missed me.
Call me.
Write me.
Fax me.
Don't do one of those three because I don't have a fax machine (I'm not gunna tell you which).

Shaky Shaky
Sexy Sexy (the motto for the trip)
