I have a renewed love for my best animal friends, my "pets". In particular, Megatron (my roommate's cat) amuses me constantly. He is sassy and does not put up with my shit. He loves to come in my room and knock over any cups of water I may be sipping. He likes to hit my mirror in search of the mysterious grey cat that lives within it. He loves to eat popcorn in bed with me, but will only eat those with a lot of my vegan butter on them. The other pieces he shuns in disgust. He does so many quirky things that really give me a sense of his unique personality. My favorite thing that he does is at around the same time every night he sits at my door and meows in the dark until I open it and let him on my bed. And then, every morning at 7am on the dot he purrs in my face to awaken me.
Megatron represents animals' ability to coexist with humanity. He shows me that he has a place in this world and reminds me of how lonely I would be without him. A world with no animals, but a world, say, with just meat lying around, would be lonely and ugly. Think upon how many times you've loved your pet or observed another animal in wonder. We all have enjoyed the company of animals. That should be reason enough to respect their lives- lives that deserve to live outside of cruelty. Do what you can to remove CRUELTY from the lives of animals. Buy products not tested on animals, go vegetarian, boycott the circus, don't support pet stores. Do any or all of these things. Your own religious, world, moral, social, etc., views can fit into a humane, cruelty-free world with animals.
